Last week, our CEO Rodion Bezruk stepped into the heart of the local tech community at Convivium's Business Boosters event. It was a night dedicated to networking, sharing ideas, and exploring how the Canadian ecosystem supports high-scale innovation.

The atmosphere was a mix of high-growth founders and industry experts. Beyond the networking, our CEO walked away with a perspective-shifting realization regarding Canadian tech funding strategies and how companies can better manage their R&D budgets.

The Main Insight: Don’t Pay Full Price for Your Own Innovation

The event was a masterclass in financial strategy. Elizabeth Gartey, founder of Salesgrowth Development Inc. and a leading expert on government funding programs, provided a roadmap for finding and securing non-repayable financing. Her insights focused on helping companies build effective growth strategies by utilizing subsidies that many entrepreneurs simply overlook.

Adding a deep dive into technical tax credits was special guest Gregory Molev, an expert in the Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax incentive. Gregory shared his specialized knowledge on how businesses can turn their "technical uncertainties" into real financial resources, particularly through programs like SR&ED and OMMITC.

How Strategic Funding Powers Tech Growth

Navigating the Canadian business funding ecosystem allows founders to:

  • Protect Their Equity: Scale the business through non-dilutive funding without immediately needing to give away shares for capital.
  • Leverage Innovation: Turn the hardest parts of development into financial assets that the government helps fund.
  • Build Smarter: Treat government programs as a "silent partner" in the R&D process, reducing the overall burn rate and allowing for more aggressive growth.

Networking, Ideas, and the Toronto Tech Community

The evening was all about the people making the Toronto tech scene so unique.

For DevIT, visiting these events is a core part of our mission to stay at the forefront of the industry. Our main goal is to stay connected to the financial and strategic ecosystems that ensure our vision (and the vision of our partners) is always aligned with the best opportunities in the market. Thank you to everyone who visited the event and created the unforgettable atmosphere!
