"Emerald City"

A virtual immersive experience with geography connected to the physical world.

About

Emerald City is a virtual immersive platform from Hub Culture, designed as a next-generation digital city. It combines 3D environments, real-time interaction, and sustainability-focused experiences. Visitors can explore virtual districts, branded Pavilions, and community spaces — all linked to global events like COP, WEF Davos, and Art Basel. The project merges economic interaction and environmental restoration within a visually rich, VR-enabled cityscape.

Client's Request

We were invited at the early stage to lay the technical and architectural groundwork for Emerald City. The client aimed to build a scalable, immersive city that supports participation in global events while promoting economic and environmental value. The key development priorities included:

  • Create a multi-layered access system using video conferencing, browser-based 3D, and full VR immersion
  • Design a navigable 3D city layout structured into realms, districts, and properties
  • Enable virtual land ownership and customization with pre-approved assets and templates
  • Connect user participation to sustainability goals, including rainforest reforestation campaigns
  • Integrate Ven and HubID for payments, governance, and secure access

Here’s What We Did

Our team contributed to the foundational phase of development, helping to shape the platform architecture, immersive logic, and interaction design. We supported the build-up of core systems to allow partner and citizen participation. Here's what we delivered during our phase:

  • 3D city planning model: Designed a modular, arcing grid layout with interactive districts and teleportation logic
  • User journey logic: Outlined vertical access layers — from video conferencing to immersive VR — allowing universal accessibility
  • Property management concept: Developed early-stage logic for 1-hectare property templates, customization workflows, and design approval
  • Sustainability-linked tracking model: Proposed mechanisms to link digital engagement to real-world reforestation impact
  • Ven & HubID readiness: Supported backend logic for digital currency integration, identity management, and transactional flow

Here’s the Result

Though the project was later continued by another development team, our work served as the technical and conceptual backbone for what followed. The platform’s early layout, interaction design, and economic structures were shaped during our involvement, helping to fast-track further development.

Thanks to our expertise at DevIT, Emerald City was set on a stable, scalable path — ready to host events, enable community building, and support its mission to merge immersive participation with environmental impact.
