In 2017, Shopify lacked native multilingual and multicurrency support, and the available solutions relied on dynamic translations via JavaScript, which limited customization and control. DevIT aimed to create a robust translation app that would allow store owners to manage and modify translated content and store it directly in Shopify's metafields, while supporting a wide range of languages and dialects.

Our product team developed LangShop, an app that supports both automatic and manual translations of Shopify store content, including text and media. The first version of the app allowed users to access and modify translated texts stored in Shopify metafields. As Shopify evolved, so did LangShop. In collaboration with Shopify developers, we released LangShop v.2.0, the first app to leverage Shopify's native multilingual functionality. We continued to enhance the app by integrating features such as human translation services via an external translation agency, translation export/import tools, currency conversion, and machine translation engines (Google, Bing, Yandex, DeepL).

LangShop became a top-rated Shopify translation app, supporting 241 languages and dialects and improving SEO by translating every aspect of a store, including checkout pages. The app not only empowered merchants to reach global markets with ease but also offered advanced customization options that no other app provided at the time. LangShop continues to serve merchants worldwide, adapting to the evolving needs of Shopify store owners.
